Wow! Who would have thought that a small town girl like me would get the opportunity to go to Las Vegas and compete for Miss Teen United States, and actually take home the crown?
What an experience this has been thus far. I am so honored and thrilled to be your new Miss Teen United States 2008! As soon as the crown was placed on my head, I knew that my life would be forever changed.
When I arrived home at 2 a.m. from my unforgettable experience in Vegas, my family and friends welcomed me with a HUGE sign in my yard reading, Congratulations Stephanie, Miss Teen United States 2008! However, the real celebration began when I walked through my front door! We celebrated until the sun came up! Since that morning, I have been doing many things with my title.
My first appearance was volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. I helped a local family build their dream home. I also learned to ditch the dress so I could get down and dirty! I wore my tool belt and learned how to swing a hammer!
My second appearance was an embarrassing moment for me. I was invited to throw out the first pitch for the Augusta Green Jackets baseball team. Lets just say I was not cut out for baseball (the ball did not quite make it to the plate). Thank goodness for pageants!
I recently was given the opportunity to visit several amazing children at the Medical College of Georgia. I spent the afternoon answering hundreds of questions and signing several autographs. Their smiles made my day!
Last weekend was very busy for me. On Friday, I made an appearance at the opening of the Augusta Operas Sweeny Todd, which was held at the historic Imperial Theatre. Then on Saturday, I was in Charlotte, North Carolina for the Southern Womens Conference. This was a very special moment for the Miss United States organization because we introduced the new home for the North Carolina United States pageant.
